Why Value Lighting Is Becoming Value Multifamily

By Dan O’Neal, President, Value Multifamily

For more than 30 years, lighting has been at the heart of our business. But just as important has been the market we’ve built that business around: multifamily.

Over the years, I’ve watched our team work with owners, developers, contractors and other project partners on multifamily communities across the country. And one thing has become increasingly clear: the value we bring goes well beyond supplying lighting fixtures.

We help solve problems. We review specifications. We identify more cost-effective alternatives. We leverage longstanding manufacturer relationships. And we stay involved throughout the project to help keep lighting packages, budgets and schedules on track.

That’s why we’re changing our name from Value Lighting to Value Multifamily.

A Name That Better Reflects Who We Are

This isn’t a change in direction. In many ways, it’s the opposite.

We’re putting the name of the market we know best at the center of our brand.

Multifamily construction has its own challenges. A market-rate apartment community isn’t the same as student housing. Affordable housing has different requirements than a high-rise or build-to-rent development. New construction brings different challenges than redevelopment or a major renovation.

After three decades in this industry, I’ve seen firsthand how different multifamily projects can be. That’s a big reason I like the new name. It says much more clearly who we are, what we know and who we’ve built this business to serve.

Lighting Is Still at Our Core

While the name is changing, lighting remains our core expertise.

Value Multifamily will continue helping project teams with multifamily lighting package development, specification review and alignment, manufacturer coordination, cost-effective lighting alternatives, procurement and project support.

We’re also continuing to invest in the relationships and capabilities that allow us to support customers as their projects evolve. When needs extend beyond lighting, our established partnerships with trusted contractors and industry specialists can bring additional energy, electrical and building-system expertise directly into the project.

But we’re not trying to become everything to everybody.

We want to be an even better resource for the multifamily industry.

What This Means for Our Customers

For our longtime customers, the things you’ve come to expect from us aren’t changing. You’ll still be working with the same team and benefiting from the manufacturer relationships we’ve built over the years. We’ll continue to focus on practical solutions that help keep projects on budget and moving forward.

The new name simply better reflects who we are today and where we’re headed. It gives us an opportunity to build on what we already do well while finding new ways to support the multifamily customers who got us here.

I’m excited about what comes next, and I’m especially grateful to the customers, manufacturers and partners who helped us get here.

Welcome to Value Multifamily. We’re built for multifamily because we always have been.
